✨ A Spark of Inspiration Can Change Everything

Hey friend,

Welcome back to Golden Pearls with Dr. Lycka! It’s a joy to be with you again.

Every week, we explore one of the 13 Golden Pearls that have shaped my life and the lives of so many others. These aren’t just ideas—they’re living, breathing truths that can transform the way you show up in the world.

This week, we’re diving into Golden Pearl #2: Inspiration—and how it can be a force not just for big, bold change, but for small, everyday moments of purpose.

🟡 This Week’s Golden Pearl: Inspiration

“Inspiration doesn’t need to be loud. It just needs to be real.”
—Dr. Allen Lycka & Harriet Tinka

Inspiration is often misunderstood. People think it’s reserved for rare, grand moments—standing ovations, world-changing ideas, or lightning bolts of clarity. But the truth is, inspiration is a choice. It’s a quiet spark that can become a roaring fire if we choose to nurture it.

Let me share a story that illustrates this beautifully.

In Loren Eiseley’s parable The Star Thrower, a man sees a child tossing stranded starfish back into the ocean. He tells the child, “There are too many—you’ll never make a difference.” The child picks up another starfish, throws it in, and says, “It made a difference to that one.”

That’s what inspiration looks like. It doesn’t wait until the conditions are perfect or the audience is massive. It simply acts. It sees possibility where others see limitation.

In my own journey, after being misdiagnosed with ALS and given six months to live, it was a spark of inspiration that saved me. I dared to believe the diagnosis was wrong. That sliver of hope led me to the right doctor, the right treatment, and ultimately, a second chance at life.

For Harriet, that spark came in the form of Amber—a young girl who had lost her family, her ability to walk, and yet still radiated joy. Amber’s words to Harriet were simple, but life-changing: “Why don’t you use your experience to make a difference in your world?” That one sentence helped turn Harriet’s pain into purpose.

Here’s the truth: Inspiration often hides in the disguise of pain. It’s in heartbreak, failure, disappointment. But if you lean in, those moments become the soil where your purpose begins to grow.

You don’t need to be famous to inspire someone. You just need to be real. Honest. Brave enough to show up.

So this week, I invite you to:

  • Look for inspiration in your daily life—in conversations, in challenges, in quiet moments.

  • Be someone’s spark. Encourage a friend. Share your story. Throw a starfish back.

Because you never know who needs your light today.
