✨ The Quiet Victories That Change Everything
Hey friend,
Welcome back to another edition of Golden Pearls with Dr. Lycka.
If you’ve been with us the last few weeks, you know we’re journeying through the 13 Golden Pearls that have helped me, and countless others, build lives of meaning, joy, and resilience.
This week, we arrive at one of my favorites—and one of the most misunderstood: Victory.
🟡 This Week’s Golden Pearl: Victory
“Victory is when you choose growth over comfort. It’s when you look back and realize you didn’t let the worst thing that happened to you become the end of your story.”
—Dr. Allen Lycka & Harriet Tinka
What does victory really look like to you?
Is it standing on a podium, winning a medal, or being celebrated by a crowd?
Or could it be something quieter—something more personal?
Victory, as I’ve come to learn, is about those moments no one sees. It’s the choice to keep going when giving up would be easier. It’s choosing healing when hatred tempts you. It’s showing up, again and again, even when you don’t feel ready.
Harriet and I love to tell the story of the Olympic runner who fell during a race. The crowd gasped. His medal chances disappeared. But he got up, limped across the finish line, and was met with a standing ovation. That’s real victory. Not winning—but refusing to quit.
I experienced this firsthand when I was diagnosed with ALS and given six months to live. At first, I spiraled. But deep down, something in me said, this isn’t the end. I booked a flight to see a doctor in Colorado—and that second opinion saved my life. That moment—the decision to seek hope—was my victory. I reclaimed my time, my voice, and my future.
Harriet’s victory came in reclaiming her identity after surviving a brutal attack. It wasn’t about getting even—it was about getting stronger. She chose to walk again. To speak. To lead. She turned trauma into power, and fear into purpose.
The truth is: victory isn’t one big moment. It’s thousands of small ones. It’s waking up and choosing courage. Choosing light. Choosing life.
So let me ask you:
Where in your life are you due for a victory?
What’s one place you can rise this week?
It doesn’t have to be dramatic. Just real. Just yours.
Because the greatest victories are often invisible to the world—but unforgettable to the soul.
